Help Me to Buy a Computer
There is so much wrong with this commercial! Look, fine, so they are helping folks buy a computer and yes, yes, yes, a computer is relevant and vital in this day and age but … I don't think a downgraded computer for the basic user is what they are going for here.
The ad in question is called Help me to Buy and it is painful to watch. Erm, surely you should not be buying something like a computer on installments if you have credit problems? I'm thinking that means your other expenses, ones that are absolutely vital (like say, food and transport costs), are hard to pay for as well, right? By the way, I came across this ad via this blog which has an excellent commentary about this wtf infomercial.
Why some folks want a computer?Does anyone else freak out whenever they say don't worry, we won't check your bad credit. Just have an active checking account. In case you were wondering, that was your cue to run away from that presenter. I love how they throw in $1000 worth of extra software. Yea, like that is not going to be added on to the final price.
Ooh it gets better. Wait til you get to the bit about Skip Pay. Oh no, they didn't! I love how that family is so busy printing color pictures of themselves that they could not pay for that month's installment. Isn't that what they are implying? Why else do the voice-over for Skip Pay right at that point? Did they spend all their money on color cartridges and have none left for paying bills?
Oh and apparently, it helps you get hooked to the internet. After all, that blonde lady says 'I am on the internet everyday'. Poking people on Facebook, I suppose?
