I found this old Apple Macintosh ad from 1984. Apparently this song was used when Apple initially introduced the Mac. Or around about that time. It was probably just used amongst bigwigs and their meetings. Surely they didn't go public with this song … did they?
What's really bad about this ad is the song. I can't believe they borrowed from “Flashdance”. I keep expecting a woman in leotards to prance across the screen whenever they fade in between scenes. Did they sign Lead the Way in the same font as well? Ouch.
I suppose they have to appear all confident and provide a sales pitch but this is quite a brave sales pitch. Well, maybe brave is not the word but … conceited? Judging from the sidebar text on the Youtube page, this ad is from an important shareholders meeting. Man, I'm glad they upped presentations since then. Or do business meetings still consist of cheesy rip-offs of the current top song? I suppose it would be a rap number if it was a present day meeting, possibly covering Beyonce.
At least the advertisement is quite honest. It's true, it's user-friendly and everyone can use it. Even that little brat who was faffing about with a floppy disk. They just forget to tell you that not everyone can afford it. Oh while we are on about this computer, do check out the mouse after 1:20. This was one of the first computers to feature a point and click system using a mouse and it's amazing to think that the little buggers used to look like that.
